Turkish plane crashes killing 56 (video)

( RIA Novosti ) - A plane has crashed in central Turkey killing all 56 people on board, the head of the airline Tuncay Doganer told Turkish television on Friday.

The Atlas Jetair MD-83 aircraft, with 49 passengers and seven crew members, was on a domestic flight from Istanbul en route to the town of Isparta.

According to media the plane disappeared from radar screens a short time before landing around 1:30 a.m. local time (23:30 p.m. GMT Thursday).

The cause of the crash is not known, but Doganer said poor weather or technical reasons could have been a factor.

Emergency teams have located the wreckage and a crisis desk and hotline has been set up.
