Azerbaijan, Baku / Trend corr. D.Khatinoglu / The threat by Iran against the United States vessels is not only a military maneuver; it has a provocative character, Hossein Lajevardi, the chairman of the Associaton of Iranian Researchers fimnctioing in France.
The Five military boats of Iran, threatened to blast the US vessels near the Ormuz strait situated in the Persian Gulf. Mohammadali Hosseini, a spokesman for the Iranian Foreign Ministry, said that the Iranian side did not know that the vessels belong to the United States and it is an ordinary case, according to the Iranian IRNA agency.
Washington estimated the incident as the beginning of a 'dangerous game' by Iran. So, Teheran pursued serious goal, said Lajevardi in his telephone interview for Trend from Paris. "This is Iran's reply to the US President's visit to the region and intention to isolate the country in this region. By this incident, Iran tries to warn that it can close the Ormuz Strait and stop the oil transit," Lajevardi stated.
According to the Iranian political scientist, Iran is interested in breaking out a war. "The possible war or crisis, which will involve many countries from Lithuania to Afghanistan, and all the terrorist groups will strengthen their activities against the United States, Teheran believes that it can lead to the paralysis of the US armed forces in the region. Furthermore, Iran is experiencing the tremendous political and economic crisis as well as the dissatisfaction. Teheran needs this war to unite the nation and suppress the opposition", he said.
Meanwhile, Omid Arab, another Iranian political scientist and expert on international relations, said that Iran threatened the US vessels because they violated the water border of Iran and it has become too frequent. "The exaggeration of the incident on the threshold of the US President's tour of the region targets, introducing Iran as the source of danger. Indeed, this is provocation against Iran", Arab stressed
