There is Weak Tendency Towards Politics amongst Youth in Azerbaijan – Poll

Azerbaijan, Baku, 15 April / Trend corr. J.Babayeva / Iskandar Hamidov, head of the opposition National Democratic Party of Azerbaijan and former Interior Minister, resigned from the party chairmanship position last week. During his resignation, Hamidov explained that he wished to make a concession to the youths. Trend held a poll amongst chairmen of youth organizations in order to reveal the reason for the lack of young opposition leaders in politics for many years.

Tural Abbasli, Chairman of youth organization of Musavat party - The political leaders have no responsibility to train anyone to his position. Any young man, willing to engage in politics, should seek this himself. No political leader to make concessions in his position for another person. I believe that age conception is abstract in politics. If any young man wants to replace a political leader, he has to fight for this position. He should not wait for the position to be granted to him as a heritage.

If there is opposition which could take the form of opposition leaders, then this opposition must be fought for the position. In the past there were many opportunities for youths to take these positions. However, no-one utilized this opportunity. Traditional opposition does not create obstacles for new opposition forces.

Nuraddin Babayev, Chairman of youth organization of Citizen and Development party - There ispeople in politics, such as Etibar Mammadov, leader of National Independent Party, who does not wish to make concessions for the younger generation because of his own political ambitions. Therefore the younger generation should have such interest in politics in order to demonstrate their ability.

Young political leaders should be far from radical and have the ability to oppose. I consider that for a young politician under 30 years of age it is difficult to become a good political force. The most successful step will be to support the current young political leaders.

Elnara Garibova, Co-founder of the republic youth movement Irali - First of all, youth should develop intellectually and through the world's point of view. A young man who is developed as a citizen should be able to define its political position. Unfortunately, our youth come to politics and do not understand what politics is. In foreign countries young people start their political activities from 27 or 28 years old

Seymur Haziyev, Chairman of the youth organization of National Front Party of Azerbaijan- The bringing up of young political leaders is a common social problem. There is the problem of a new generation lacking in finances. Youths may participate in election structures, in the establishment of a new party and can be promoted to a certain position. However, they cannot achieve chairmanship position, as this requires large funds. There is no embargo to prevent youths from coming to power.

Ramin Hajili, Chairman of the youth organization of Democratic reforms party- There is no such practice in the world where political leaders are removed from their positions in order to make a concession to younger leaders. There is a need for good conditions to encourage young politicians. Today, we should take into consideration the conditions rather than to blame young political leaders.
