All Presidential Contenders in   Azerbaijan Must Get Equal Conditions – Ombudsman

Azerbaijan, Baku, 18 June /Тrend News I. Alizade/ "All presidential contenders in Azerbaijan must get equal conditions," Azerbaijani Ombudswoman Elmira Suleymanova said to journalists on 18 June.

"Equitable and democratic elections require to provide all conditions to the people without outer intervention," Suleymanova said.

According to Suleymanova, Ombudswoman Administration thinks several election-related issues must be solved. "Active participation of people in the elections must be provided and equal conditions must be provided to all the contenders," she said.

Ombudswoman noted that the pre-election situation in Azerbaijan had been recently harshly criticized. However, she thinks one cannot say there is no progress in that field.

Azerbaijan will host the presidential elections on 15 October. Musavat party has already nominated its Chairman Isa Gambar, Azerbaijan Democratic Party - Sardar Jalaloglu, the Greens Party nominated Mais Gulaliyev and the Popular Front Party of Unified Azerbaijan nominated Gudrat Hasanguliyev. The head of the public forum Eldar Namazov stands for presidency as an independent candidate. The governing New Azerbaijan Party (NAP) will nominate country's current President Ilham Aliyev. Bloc Azadlig uniting three opposition parties (Popular Front Party of Azerbaijan, Citizen and Development Party, Liberal Party) intends to boycott the elections.
