President of Turkmenistan signs amnesty order

Turkmenistan, Ashgabat, Feb. 16 /corr. Trend E.Hasanov / On Feb. 13, the President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdymuhamedov signed an order on mass amnesty in the honor of the celebration of the Day of National Flag, noted on Feb. 19.

Upon the document, 990 people were freed from further serving of basic punishment, and also from the additional punishment in the form of putting responsibility of living in the specific locality.

 

This amnesty is the first this year. In 2008 the pardon action was timed to the Day of Neutrality - December 12, 2008, - which discharged 390 prisoners. Nearly 1,700 people left the prisons in September in the night of omnipotence (Muslim holiday), 900 - on the eve of May 9 - Day of Victory, and approximately 1,300 prisoners were pardoned on the eve of Flag Day.
