Azerbaijan, Baku, Feb. 23 / Trend , B. Hasanov/ Ankara is not aware of Armenian Prime Minister Tigran Sarkisyan's intention on Armenia's atomic energy cooperation with Turkey.
According to the Armenian media reports, Armenian Prime Minister Sarkisyan has proposed Turkey to participate in the construction of an atomic power station in Armenia. The atomic power station, which will cost $5 to $7 billion, will meet greater part of Armenia's energy needs.
Turkish Energy and Natural Resources Ministry Foreign Relations Department deputy Head Aysun Ozkanach said to Trend that Turkey has received no proposals. "We are unaware of Sarkisyan's intention to cooperate with Turkey on atomic energy," Ozkanach said to Trend in a telephone conversation from Ankara on Feb. 23.
Turkey seeks to normalize relations with Armenia which has been undermined since 1993. Armenian-Turkish ties have been severed because of Armenia's anti-Turkey "genocide" campaign and occupation of 20% of Azerbaijani lands. Turkish President Abdullah Gul visited Yerevan on September 6, 2008 at the invitation of his Armenian counterpart Serzh Sarkisyan to watch Armenia-Turkey European Cup football match. Diplomatic efforts have been made since then to normalize ties between the two countries.
