Azerbaijan’s battle readiness meets level of top int'l forces: commander

The battle readiness of the Azerbaijani Interior Forces meets top international standards, Interior Forces Commander General Zakir Hasanov said at an event celebrating the 17th anniversary of the Interior Forces on March 12.
"Senior experts and the Azerbaijani president appreciate our battle readiness," he said.
The Interior Forces were equipped with contemporary weapons and military facilities, Hasanov said. Favorable conditions were also created to facilitate service activities at the highest level, he added.
On March 5, 1995, former President Heydar Aliyev issued a decree announcing March 12 as Interior Forces Day. Aliyev said the date marks the beginning of the fight between the Interior Forces and Armenian army to protect the country's territorial integrity.
The Interior Forces has played an active role in the country's public and social life. A total of 496 staff have died in action, 1,166 have been injured and 268 have gone missing.
