34,131 candidates have already been approved for municipalities in Azerbaijan, the press service of the Central Election Commission (CEC) of Azerbaijan told Trend .
Municipal elections in Azerbaijan will be held on December 23. During these elections, 15 682 members will be elected for 1,718 municipalities. Formerly elections were held twice - in 1999 and 2004.
Of those whose candidatures were approved, 33,431 people received the signature lists in the constituencies. Of them, 29,533 candidates have collected the necessary signatures and submitted these lists and other necessary documents to the relevant constituencies. 26,462 candidates have already been registered in 1,717 municipalities. Of this number, 5,592 are women. 13,697 approved candidates for municipal elections have higher education.
Of the candidates, 7,864 people are independent, others represent 29 political parties. 22 political parties officially joined the election. The constituencies have registered candidates from 13 parties.
