The U.S. Embassy in Azerbaijan wishes to take part in events held in Penal Service (PS), together with international organizations.
U.S. Charge d'Affaires in Azerbaijan Donald Lu made this request to the Chief of PS, the Deputy Justice Minister Nazim Alekperov during meeting, a source at Penal Service of the Ministry of Justice told Trend .
Lu said he was aware of the successful reforms carried out by PS in recent years, stressed the impossibility of rejecting the progress in improving prison conditions, a high level of care being provided to them, instilling positive habits of prisoners.
Alekperov provided detailed information to the American guests on the PS activities carried out in recent years to improve prison conditions, the construction of new facilities to meet modern international standards.
Alekperov also spoke about positive changes in the sphere of international cooperation of the Penal Service and said that the representatives of the Council of Europe, OSCE, International Committee of Red Cross and other influential international organizations hold regular monitoring in prisons and detention centers, directly get acquainted with the conditions of detention of prisoners, make recommendations for further improvement.
The meeting was also attended by head of international cooperation department of the Ministry of Justice Zavar Gafarov.
