Azerbaijan, Baku, Aug. 17 / Trend T.Hajiyev /

Two Azerbaijani opposition parties are expected to reach an agreement on unified candidates for the upcoming parliamentary elections, Popular Front Party of Azerbaijan (PFPA) Deputy Chairman for Political Affairs Fuad Gahramanli told Trend today.

"Musavat leader Isa Gambar and PFPA leader Ali Kerimli will agree on the unified candidates in several constituencies at a meeting today," Gahramanli said.

Gambar proposed unifying his party with the PFPA on July 15. The two parties are continuing talks to determine unified candidates in the majority of the constituencies.

The parliamentary elections will be held Nov. 7. Previous elections were held in November 2005. The elections are held by the majority system in 125 constituencies.

Gahramanli also spoke about the issues discussed at the PFPA presidium meeting held on Monday.

"The meeting primarily discussed the progress of negotiations between Musavat and PFPA. Recommendations were made for the early completion of these negotiations. It was also decided to set up an electoral party and maintain a compromise position," he said.

Gahramanli said that the meeting postponed holding of congress.

"The meeting raised a question on holding of congress, which was scheduled for this week. It is impossible to conduct congress even a suitable place presented. Uncertainty about the choice of place makes it impossible to complete the preparatory work. It was decided to postpone the congress indefinitely. This will be decided on regular meetings of the Presidium of the Board," Gahramanli said.

The APFP was established in 1989. Former President Abulfaz Elchibey founded and ran the party until 2000. The party split August 2000 into the APFP and the CPFP.
