The Council of Europe will monitor the upcoming parliamentary elections in Azerbaijan.
"A delegation of Council of Europe monitors will pay a long-term visit to Azerbaijan in October to observe the upcoming parliamentary elections," PACE Vice President, Azerbaijani Delegation to PACE head Samad Seyidov told journalists today.
Parliamentary elections will be held Nov. 7. Previous elections were held in November 2005. The elections are held by the majority system in 125 constituencies.
The Council of Europe will send two delegations to Azerbaijan to observe the elections in the long and short term. A short-term observation mission will monitor the elections, while the delegation will consist of party representatives and Council of Europe deputies, Seyidov said.
"Both missions are important for Azerbaijan and we will do everything possible to carry out surveillance activities successfully," he added.
