There is a proposal to create a unified coalition of the OSCE member countries to ensure the safety of tourist activities from terrorism, the OSCE Head on Anti-terrorism Issues, Raphael Perl, said to a press conference in Astana.

"The tourism industry is very important for many countries. But at the same time, the tourist business is now the goal of terrorists, and it is important to find consensus to ensure the safety of this sphere," said Perl.

He remembered that at yesterday's conference, the head of the Russian delegation, Igor Rogachev, spoke of a Russian-American initiative to implement a project of public-private partnership in ensuring the safety of tourist activities from the terrorist threats.

"We welcome the steps taken by Russia, especially on the eve of the Olympic Games in Sochi," said Pearl.

Attending the press conference, the Director of the Kazakh Foreign Ministry's OSCE Department Serzhan Abdykarimov added that the first time at an expert workshop in Vienna in the first half of 2011, the tour operators will be invited for joint discussion of the problem.
