State minister: Azerbaijan, Britain have many opportunities to be used

Summing up the results of meetings during his two-day visit, UK Minister of State for Europe, MP David Lidington has assigned a number of areas that have great potential for cooperation with Azerbaijan.

Summing up the results of meetings during his two-day visit, UK Minister of State for Europe, MP David Lidington has assigned a number of areas that have great potential for cooperation with Azerbaijan.

"As a result of the meetings, I can assure that there is potential for cooperation in transport and services sectors," Lidington said to the final press conference on Thursday.

Lidington was in Baku on his first official visit on Oct. 20-21. The purpose of his visit was to strengthen bilateral relations and cooperation of British and Azerbaijani businessmen. Minister of State was accompanied by a delegation of British businessmen.

The transport sector is actively developing in Azerbaijan, said Lidington. Britain may provide assistance to Azerbaijan not only in technical support, but also in management system in this sphere.

Lidington met with key figures in the government of Azerbaijan, including President Ilham Aliyev, Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov, Minister of Economic Development and Minister of Transport, as well as with heads of leading enterprises in Azerbaijan.

During the meetings, were particularly noted the prospects for cooperation in the field of renewable energy, said Lidington

"Currently, a number of British companies operate in Azerbaijan in the field of alternative energy," he said. - I hope that in future the number of such companies from the UK will grow."

Besides the traditional areas of cooperation in oil and gas sector, as well as in transport, it is important to have cultural dialogue between peoples, said Lidington. That is why, in his future activities, he promised to pay special attention to developing relations in the field of education and culture.
