The Kazakh Supreme Court Chairman Musabek Alimbekov has been dismissed as a result of MPs' voting at a plenary meeting of the Senate on Friday.

President Nursultan Nazarbayev submitted a proposal to the Senate to dismiss him.
The Supreme Court chairman has been dismissed against the background of a great scandal. On Thursday, the Senate members supported the financial police's proposal to dismiss six judges of the Supreme Court, against whom criminal cases have been filed on suspicion of corruption. After the scandal Alimbekov wrote a letter to President with a request to dismiss him.

Senators gave consent to the appointment of Bektas Beknazarov, the former head of Aktobe Oblast Court, as new chairman of the Supreme Court.
