Azerbaijan, Baku, Nov.15 / Trend, A.Taghiyeva /

Egypt's Intelligence Service Chief, Major-General Mohamed Raafat Shehata cut short his visit to Turkey in order to follow the developments in the Gaza Strip, the Al-Ahram newspaper reported on Thursday.

Shehata returned to Cairo on Thursday afternoon. It is expected that Shehata will hold talks with Israel and HAMAS for ceasefire.

The Israeli Air Force carried out attacks today, the second day of operations in the Gaza Strip, aimed at about a 100 targets and killing three members of the HAMAS movement's military wing, bringing the total number of killed Palestinians to at least 11.

Operation Pillar of Cloud has been a large scale operation carried out over the past four years. Tanks and naval ships are involved in the shelling of Gaza in addition to planes. Representatives of the Israeli political leadership and military command do not rule out a land invasion.

Last time Israel brought ground troops into the enclave was in the winter of 2008-2009. Then the victims of the operation amounted to about 1400 Palestinians.
