Israel has to be the first to cease the fire and declare the failure of its military operation, a spokesman of Hamas in Lebanon, Osama Hamdan, said in an exclusive interview to Rusiya Al-Yaum (Russia Today) TV channel.
According to Hamdan, the Israeli aggression in the Gaza Strip is caused by a number of reasons that are in the same context with the wishes of Netanyahu. The first reason is the upcoming elections in Israel. The second reason is that Israel has certainly long been observing its deterrent forces confronting the Palestinian resistance, and is trying to regain the ability to resist, and also to recover the balance of power, Hamdan said.
The third reason is that the changes happening in the region are under constant study of Israel. And this operation is a part of a plan for regional reconnaissance, which can have serious consequences for the Palestinian side, he said.
As for the possibility of a ground operation by Israel in the Gaza Strip, Hamdan said that from the experience of working with the Israeli political leadership, he assumes, they are capable of such a step.
