Azerbaijan, Baku, Oct. 2 / Trend M. Aliyev /

Azerbaijani pilgrims in Saudi Arabia will be able to vote in their country's presidential election.

An agreement is expected soon, chairman of the Central Election Commission (CEC) Mazahir Panahov said at the opening ceremony of the Independent Media Centre in Baku on Wednesday.

He stressed the CEC is focusing on Azerbaijani pilgrims' voting.

"According to Saudi Arabia's laws, if there is no official permission one cannot engage in political activity in the country," he added. "We must obtain permission to conduct voting. If Saudi Arabia agrees, Azerbaijani pilgrims will be able to vote in the election."

The presidential election in Azerbaijan will be held on October 9. The previous one was held on October 15, 2008.

Azerbaijan holds its presidential election every five years.
