Baku, Azerbaijan, Feb. 17
Azerbaijan stands for restoring peace, establishing ceasefire and finding a political solution to the Syrian crisis in line with the will of the Syrian people, said Hikmet Hajiyev, a spokesman for Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry.
"Addressing the 'Supporting Syria and the Region Conference' in London, Feb. 4, President Ilham Aliyev expressed Azerbaijan's stance on the Syrian crisis and emphasized the country's experience in dealing with humanitarian catastrophe," Hajiyev told Trend Feb. 17.
Syria has been suffering from an armed conflict since March 2011, which, according to the UN, has so far claimed the lives of over 220,000 people.
Militants from various armed groups are confronting the Syrian government troops.
The "Islamic State" (IS, aka ISIS, ISIL or Daesh) and Jabhat al-Nusra are the most active terrorist groups in Syria.
