CHANGES TO STAFF OF ELECTIONS COMMISSIONS ON AGENDA OF PACE RAPPORTEURS’ VISIT TO BAKU, PACE CO-RAPPORTEUR SAYS

Changes to the staff of elections commissions is one of the main items of the agenda of PACE Monitoring Committee rapporteurs’ forthcoming visit to Azerbaijan, Andreas Herkel, the co- rapporteur of the PACE Monitoring Committee on Azerbaijan, told Trend.

According to Herkel, changes to the staff of elections commissions in Azerbaijan is one of the important issues awaiting for urgent positive solution. However, it is an exclusive right of the Azerbaijani parliament, but its delay of the issue could lead to �serious negative subsequences’.

“The experience of the previous elections was taken into consideration while the formation of the CE’s position on the November elections in Azerbaijan,” Herkel underlined. He called the position by Janni Bukkikio, the secretary of the Venice Commission (VC), who earlier announced the necessity of considering all proposals of the Venice Commission and OSCE on changes into the Azerbaijani Elections Code.
