The National Association of Municipalities (HРђРњ) will become a new institute for development of democracy in Azerbaijan and at present analysis of possible models which will be taken as basis for NAM is under consideration, Ramig Hashimov, the head of the sector on work with municipalities of the Presidents Apparat, told Trend.
NAM should be established with consideration of the national mentality of the people of Azerbaijan, Hashimov urged. The National association of self-government bodies of every 46 CE member-state has own specific peculiarities, while two similar associations exist in some CE countries.
So far the working group on the establishment of NAM will process the issue and structure and functions of the association will be clarified by the end of the year, he underlined.
Touching upon the proposals by the CE Congress of the local and regional self-government bodies on the conduct of re-run municipal elections in Azerbaijan, official of the Presidents Apparat said that the issue was under the competence of the Central Elections Commission and namely the CEC should answer this question.
