A protest of the Party of National Independence of Azerbaijan to be scheduled for 1 p. m. on September 22 before the office of the Iranian Embassy to Azerbaijan has been curtailed. About ten members of the National Independence Party took part in the above-mentioned protest action, Trend reports.

The party was scheduled to protest against the deprivation of rights of Azerbaijanis to study in the Azerbaijani language. The Party`s activists demands that the Iran Government provide Azerbaijanis with their national and cultural rights and to obtain education in their mother tongue. On September 20, the Party had appealed to the Executive Power of Baku City in connection with the scheduled protest.

The police surrounded the building of the Iranian Embassy, thereby making it impossible for the demonstrators to participate in the protest. The demonstrators were blocked close to the Secondary School #134 located near the Embassy. The Party`s Press Secretary and three other demonstrators were detained.

Notably, the National Independent Party of Azerbaijan established in 1992 is the first officially registered party in Azerbaijan. Etibar Mammadov is the founder of the Party, and was the Party`s Chairman up to 2004. It is a member of the International Democratic Union. Etibar Mammadov is the existing Deputy Chairman of the party and its acknowledged leader.
