Chairmanship in GUAM Parliamentary Assembly Transferred to Azerbaijan

The Chairmanship in the Parliamentary Assembly of GUAM (Georgia, Ukraine, Azerbaijan and Moldavia) was transferred to Azerbaijan, the Head of the Press Service of Milli Majlis [Azerbaijani Parliament], Akif Nasirov told Trendregarding the results of the 3rd meeting held on 14 October in Kishinev.

Nasirov said the meeting opened with the GUAM Parliamentary Assembly. The agenda of the meeting included a series of issues, discussions of which are necessary for the future activities of GUAM PA. After confirming the agenda, the meeting focused on the organizational issues, particularly changing the procedure rules of the Chairmanship in GUAM PA. Other questions were linked with the confirmation of the new composition of GUAM PA Committees for 2006-2007, places and dates of the next meetings of the committee, including the venue of 4th meeting, he said.

Nasirov stated that according to the rules, the Chairmanship was transferred to Azerbaijan. On this occasion, the Chairman of the Moldavian Parliament, Marian Lupu, congratulated his Azerbaijani colleague Oktay Asadov, he added.

The meeting of GUAM PA was also attended by Elton Mammadov, Elman Mammadov, Rufat Guliyev, Head of Milli Majlis Apparat Safa Mirzayev and other senior officials from Azerbaijan.
