Azerbaijan Ready to Assist Georgia with Fuel Supply Energy Minister

Natik Aliyev, the Azerbaijani Minister for Industry & Energy, stated during talks with journalists that Azerbaijan is prepared to render any assistance to Georgia regarding energy issues, Trend reports.

He noted the increase of gas production currently observed in Azerbaijan, but at the same time the Country depends on the import of Russian fuel.

We do not know the volume or the price at which we will purchase imported gas in 2007. We have recently held talks with Iran on the purchase of gas. We have voiced our wish to purchase up to 2 billion cu.m of gas a year from this Country, should the price be reasonable, he stated.

Furthermore, Aliyev noted that they would consider transit of Iranian gas to Iran via the Azerbaijani territory, should Georgia undertake the appropriate agreement with Iran.

This will depend on the technical aspects which are linked with the discharge capacity of the Azerbaijani gas transportation system, the Minister said.
