CEC Chairman: Members of Election Commission Should Not Belong to Any Political Party and Pursue Their Own Ends

I also agreed with an idea that members of the election commissions should not belong to any party or political movement, as well as not pursue their own ends, Mazahir Panahov, Chairman of the Azerbaijan central Election Committee (CEC), informed journalists today, Trend reports.

He said that all European countries were forming their election commissions just in accordance with this principle. According to Mr. Panahov, CEC must be a non-party organization. In order to build a legal base for it, there will be no problem from specialists point of view, and the above-mentioned issue would not give a way to any concern. We have specialists and professional experts. Persons known to the public, who have experience in the field of elections and who do not belong to any political force, he said

Mr. Panahov said that the Venice Committee of the Council of Europe and the Azerbaijani Government are constantly cooperating on this issue. This activity is necessary for the future, and we shall continue it, he said. He also said that the new elections will be held in the municipalities where the last municipal elections were annulled.
