Kazakhstan Government Resigns

The Government officials of Kazakhstan, led by Prime Minister Danial Ahmatov, are resigning. Mr. Ahmatov made the announcement at a meeting of the Government in Astana on 8 January 2007, Trend Special Correspondent Reports.

The meeting was held behind the closed doors.

In accordance with the legislation, the head of state appoints the new Prime Minister with the consent of the Parliament and the joint meeting of the Houses of the parliament has been scheduled for 10 January.

52-year old Ahmatov headed the Government of Kazakhstan since summer 2003. Previously he was Akim (head of the administration) of Pavlodar and North-Kazakhstan Regions.
