Azerbaijan , Baku /corr Trend R.Agayev/ There is a potential for closer co-operation between Russia and Azerbaijani railway departments. Vladimir Yakunin, the Chairman of the CIS Council of Railway Transport, who is also the President of Russian Railways OJSC, made this statement in Moscow in response to an inquiry by the Trend correspondent in Russia .
"The parties should look forward and the North-South transport corridor has great prospects in this respect. We held large-scale talks in Iran and appreciated Azerbaijan 's role in the North-South project," he stated.
Mr. Yakunin reported that he intends to organize a meeting in Moscow with his Azerbaijani counterpart Arif Asgarov, the Head of the Azerbaijan State Railway, to consider the expansion of co-operation. Azerbaijan 's contribution to the development of the CIS railway systems equal to the cargo and passenger transportation throughout CIS and we attach a great significance to it, Mr. Yakunin noted.
