Azeri Foreign Minister to Attend Session of UN Council for Human Rights

Azerbaijan, Baku / corr. Trend S.Agayeva / The Head of the Permanent Representation of Azerbaijan to the UN Geneva Section and international organizations, Ambassador to Switzerland, Elchin Amirbeyov, stated that the Foreign Minister of Azerbaijan, Elmar Mammadyarov, will attend the next session of the UN Council for Human Rights scheduled for 13 March in Geneva.

According to the Ambassador, the Foreign Minister of Azerbaijan will present a report at the session regarding the situation on human rights in Azerbaijan and inform the participants of the reforms implemented in Azerbaijan in this area. The diplomat said that the Council for Human Rights was created instead of the UN Commission for Human Rights. Azerbaijan has been a member of the Council since 2006. According to the Ambassador, an agenda for the visit of the Azerbaijani Foreign Minister is currently being prepared. He said there are plans for a number of meetings to be held with Mammadyarov and his colleagues with participating countries.

During the session, the next meeting of Mammadyarov and the Foreign Minister of Armenia, Vardan Oskanyan, is also planned to be held.
