Presence of Radical Religious Sects in Prisons Cause Alarm in Azerbaijan – State Committee’s Chairman (video)

Azerbaijan, Baku / Trend corr. K.Zarbaliyeva / The State Committee on Work with Religious Structures of Azerbaijan alarmed due to the expanded information about presence of radical religious sects in places for serving sentence.

"We arte alarmed with people who serve radical and extreme religious sects in correction prisons, stated the chairman of the State Committee on Work with Religious Structures Hidayat Orujev during the meeting in the correction prison 6.

The State Committee jointly with Azerbaijani Justice Ministry implements religious popularization among prisoners.

The Deputy Justice Minister and chief of the Penal Service Nazim Alakbarov said in the interview with journalists that there was not reason for alarm due to activities of radical religious groups in prisons. There are 70 detainees who belong to any radical religious group.

There is a control over prisoners who belong to radical religious group. Some 20% of detainees are prayer.
