It is high time for practical work for Azerbaijani Diaspora: Committee Chairman

Azerbaijan, Baku, Dec. 18 / Trend M.Aliyev /

The work on the organization of the Azerbaijani Diaspora is almost complete and it is time to pass to practical work, State Diaspora Committee Chairman Nazim Ibrahimov said.

"We must pass to action and this requires maximum effort from the Diaspora," Ibrahimov said at the news conference on the results of the State Committee's activities in 2009 today.

Today the Azerbaijani Diaspora is widely represented in all countries of the world, Ibrahimov added.

Ibrahimov said double standards are applied towards Azerbaijan, as in the case of a one-sided program on the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict broadcasted by the Euronews television channel or the recent decision of the U.S. Congress to finance the separatist regime in Nagorno-Karabakh. "It makes us to work with redoubled effort next year," he said." The Armenian lobby is a myth."

All public institutions support the just position of Azerbaijan and this is the result of the Diaspora's activity, he added. "We are doing much to support the Diaspora, even fund their activities," he said.

Ibrahimov said holding protests in foreign countries does not give adequate results. "This form of protest has been left in the past. We are sending letters to Congress, the White House, as well as the institutions that apply double standards towards Azerbaijan," he said.

"Today there is a need for coordination of Azerbaijani students studying abroad and monitoring their actions," Ibrahimov underscored. "Since recently more and more Azerbaijanis are studying abroad, there is a threat that they can fall under the influence of anti-Azerbaijani forces" he added.
