Editor in chief of Azerbaijani newspaper sentenced

Today the Azerbaijani Heinous Crimes Court sentenced chief editor of the Ideal newspaper, Nazim Guliyev accused of hooliganism and blackmail to 13 years and 3 months imprisonment.

Today the Azerbaijani Heinous Crimes Court sentenced chief editor of the Ideal newspaper, Nazim Guliyev accused of hooliganism and blackmail to 13 years and 3 months imprisonment.

The court also confiscated his property.

Today, the prosecutor demanded 15 years imprisonment for at the trial process.

Guliyev was convicted in accordance with the Article 182.2 (blackmail), 182.2.3 (blackmail with violence), 221.1 (hooliganism), 234.1 (illegal manufacture, production, acquisition, storage, transport, transfer or sale of narcotic drugs, psychotropic substances or precursors) of the Azerbaijani Criminal Code. In this case, six people are recognized as the victims.

Six people were injured as a result of his crimes.

Guliyev previously was convicted under the same articles.
