The International Academic Regatta Rowing Presidential Cup will launch at the KUR teaching and educational sports center in the Azerbaijani town of Mingachevir March 28, the Azerbaijani National Rowing Federation told Trend March 26.
The fourth cup will be held by the Youth and Sports Ministry and the Azerbaijani National Rowing Federation (NRFA).
Along with 180 Azerbaijani rowers, Georgian and Moldovan athletes are also expected to take part. The tournament's main goal is to develop rowing, to popularize the sport among the general public, and to determine the degree of readiness among Azerbaijani rowers.
According to the competition rules, rowers born in 1990-1993 will compete at a distance of 2,000 meters. Rowers born in 1994-1996 will compete at a distance of 1,500 meters.
The competitions will be held on single (1X), double pair-oared (2X) boats, double boats without a rudder (2-), four pair-oared boats (4X), and four boats without a rudder. Each athlete can compete only in two different boats in this rowing style.
The kayak and canoe rowing competitions will host athletes born 1992-1994 and 1995-1996. They will compete in single (K-1, C-1) and double (C-2, C-2) boats at a distance of 200, 500 and 1,000 meters.
The competition will close March 31. Distinguished athletes will receive diplomas and medals from the Youth and Sports Ministry and the NRFA.
