Azerbaijan to host session of CIS Interstate Council for Hydrometeorology

 The 22nd session of the CIS Interstate Council for Hydrometeorology will be held in the Gabala region of Azerbaijan on Oct.5-6, Ecology and Natural Resources Ministry's Spokesman Irada Ibrahimova told Trend on Wednesday.

 Secretary General of the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) Michel Jarraud, WMO President Alexander Bedritsky, the heads of the CIS countries' national hydrometeorology services and representatives of the international organizations, as well as scientists and experts, will attend the event.

The agenda of the session includes issues of cooperation among the national hydrometeorology services in the framework of the CIS and the WMO, realization of the concept of hydrometeorological safety in the member countries, implementation of measures aimed at the development of hydro-meteorological activities in 2006-2010 and preparation of such projects for 2011 -2015, Ibrahimova said.

The session will also address the practical implementation of decisions adopted by the CIS Heads' Council on the activities of the CIS Interstate Council for Hydrometeorology, as well as preparation and review of the draft strategy for the development of hydro-meteorological activities. The session will also discuss priorities for basic research on hydrometeorology for 2011-2015 and other current issues.
