Azerbaijan to announce next round of teacher recruitment

Azerbaijan, Baku, Jan.5 / Trend M. Aliyev /

Azerbaijan is expected to hold another contest for filling vacant teaching posts in secondary schools in January, the Azerbaijani Education Ministry told Trend today.

The contest will be announced for teachers of physical and basic military training, as shortage of teachers has mainly been observed in these fields.

Earlier, a contest for teachers of all specialties was scheduled for Dec. 2010, but was postponed due to insufficient number of identified vacancies.

At present, the ministry expects a final list of the number of vacancies on the physical and basic military training from the education departments, which will be presented for the contest.

As a result of the first contest on teachers recruitment held in Aug.-Sept. 2010, 226 applicants were provided with jobs.

The Education Ministry said only a few teachers declined the positions once they had been selected.

There are some 170,000 teachers and more than 1.42 million students in 4,552 Azerbaijani public schools. Some 1,005 teachers work in 17 private comprehensive schools.
