Prosecutor's General Office: Several heads in KazMunayGas Exploration Production suspected of embezzlement

The Kazakh financial police found that officials of local executive bodies and heads of oil companies, contrary to the interests of Zhanaozen residents, have been stealing the funds allocated for socio-economic support of the local population and workers of oil and gas industry for several years, Kazinform reported.

The Kazakh financial police found that officials of local executive bodies and heads of oil companies, contrary to the interests of Zhanaozen residents, have been stealing the funds allocated for socio-economic support of the local population and workers of oil and gas industry for several years.

This was mentioned in a statement of the Prosecutor's General Office on the events that took place in Zhanaozen on December 16, 2011.

Mass riots hit the Kazakh oil city of Zhanaozen in Mangystau region on Dec.16 killing 16 and injuring more than 100 people. Buildings and cars were burned and property of individuals and legal bodies destroyed. Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev declared a state of emergency in Zhanaozen until Jan.31.

A criminal case was filed on the point "b", paragraph 3, Article 176 of the Criminal Code in relation to the heads of KazMunayGas Exploration Production and Munay Ecology company Miroshnikov and Baymuhambetov. They are accused of the embezzlement of KazMunayGas Exploration Production's funds to the amount of 335 million tenge.

The criminal case on point "b", paragraph 3, Article 176 of the Criminal Code in relation to the former director of "Ozenmunaygaz" Eshmanov, his deputy Markabaev. They are suspected of embezzling KazMunayGas Exploration Production's funds to the amount of 127 million tenge in agreement with director of "Burgylau" company Seytmaganbetov.

The official exchange rate is 148.61 tenge/$1 on Jan. 25.
