Pilot project on introduction of modern street lighting system, which can significantly reduce energy consumption and improve the ecological situation, is carried out in Kutaisi.

The pilot project for the modernization of the external lighting of the city of Kutaisi is carried out by Center for Energy Efficiency Inter RAO UES together with Energy Efficiency Georgia and the Kutaisi City Hall, Telasi company told Trend.

The pilot project aimed at practical demonstration of economic effect, promotion of energy efficiency and capabilities of modern technology, as well as the creation of a practical platform for the dissemination of such projects. Presentation of the project was held in Kutaisi Mayor's Office on April 25.

Thirty contemporary LED street lamps connected automated accounting system of energy resources are installed in the street of David the Builder. The system allows real-time data on energy consumption - both in kilowatt hours and in monetary terms.

According to calculations, the installation of LED lighting completely pays for itself for four years. Saving from just 30 street lamps of the pilot project will be over 30,000 lari for their life.

Deputy General Director for commercial affairs, center for Energy Efficiency INTER RAO UES Tamara Merebashvili said the use of modern LED lighting allows to reduce power consumption by three times. Positive environmental impact is also achieved: for example, reduce of energy consumption significantly reduces the amount of carbon dioxide emissions. It is estimated that the modernization of street lighting network of Kutaisi will reduce CO2 emissions by 1600 tones per year (equivalent to 60,000 trees).

Traffic safety increased on the section of the road where the LED lighting installed due to more uniform illumination of the roadway and adjacent areas.

The prospects of modernization of street lighting network in Kutaisi was also announced at the presentation. The Mayor of Kutaisi Giorgi Tevdoradze welcomed the results of the pilot project and expressed interest in its further development.

Center of Energy Efficiency of RAO EES - a subsidiary of JSC INTER RAO UES and the State Corporation Rosatom, which implements the newest programs on energy conservation and efficiency.

Its principal activities are the development, implementation and monitoring of energy efficiency measures, as well as scientific and methodological, informational, educational and consulting activities in the field of energy conservation and efficiency.
