Trend:

Twenty-one people were detained in Azerbaijan's Mingachevir while violating the public order in the city, said Azerbaijani Interior Ministry Aug. 22 in official information regarding the Mingachevir events.

The ministry's official information said that on Aug. 20, Bahruz Hajiyev, suspected of selling and using drugs, threw himself out of a window of the Mingachevir Police Station, while being interrogated there.

No signs of violence were detected on Hajiyev's corpse by a forensic expert examination conducted with participation of the deceased's relatives.

A criminal case was launched into the incident by the prosecutor's office under the relevant article of Azerbaijan's Criminal Code.

A legal assessment will be given to the incident in line with the investigation results.

Despite this, on August 22, after the funeral for Hajiyev, a group of the city's residents violated the public order, didn't obey the lawful demands of the police, committed hooliganism, and tried to hold a march in the city's center.

Four officers of the internal affairs authorities suffered injuries of varying severity while carrying out their service duties to stop these illegal acts.

A vehicle of the Mingachevir Police Station was damaged as well.

Some 21 people, who violated the public order, were arrested and sent to trial along with the collected materials for taking measures against them under the law.

"We are saddened by the incident and extend our condolences to the parents of the late Bahruz Hajiyev," said the Interior Ministry. "We, at the same time, bring to attention that the attempts to disrupt public order and stability in the city, provoked by destructive elements, will be stopped and measures will be taken against the perpetrators in line with law."
