The son of a member of the Islamic Party of Azerbaijan Ruhulla Akhundzade convicted earlier on charges of illegal possession of weapons has been arrested in Azerbaijan, the Akhundzade family told Trend Dec.28.
Ruhulla's son, Mahammadali Akhundzade, has been detained by the police department of Azerbaijan's Astara district, a preventive measure in the form of arrest for three months has been chosen against him. A criminal case under article 234.1 of the Criminal Code of Azerbaijan (illegal production, manufacturing, purchase, storage, transportation, transfer or sale of narcotic drugs, psychotropic substances or their precursors) has been initiated.
The chairman of the Astara district branch of the Islamic Party of Azerbaijan Ruhulla Akhundzade was detained January 21, 2011. Four Kalashnikov modernized automatic rifles, one revolver, cartridges for sub-machine guns, five F-1 (hand grenade, high explosive) and four RGD-5 (hand grenade, defensive, type 5) grenades, ten UZRGM (universal-fitting hand grenade fuse, modernized) type fuses, two TNT blocks, 491 cartridges and so on were found and seized in the courtyard of his house.
A criminal case under article 228.1 of the Criminal Code of Azerbaijan was initiated against Ruhulla Akhundzade, the Baku Court on Grave Crimes sentenced him to 11 and a half years' imprisonment.
