Azeri delegation to participate at first meeting of UNO Council on Human Rights

The first session of the Council of UNO on human rights will start its work on June 19 in Geneva, Trend reports quoting the press-service of the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry.

The Azeri delegation at the meeting will be headed by the Azeri deputy foreign minister Mahmud Mammadguliyev. He is going to deliver a report at the meeting.

The decision to establish the Council instead of the UNO Commission on human rights was made on March 15 by the UNO General Assembly. The election of the first members of the Council was held on May 9 in New York. The proposal on Azerbaijans entrance to the membership of the Council was put forward by Eastern European regional sub-group. During the 9 May meeting of UNO General Assembly, Azerbaijan received 103 votes.
