Azerbaijan, Baku / Trend , corr K. Zarbaliyeva / A preparatory sitting on the case of journalist Rafik Taghi and the Editor-in-Chief of the Sanat Gazeti newspaper, Samir Sadagatoghlu, will be held in the Sabayil District Court presided by the judge Yusif Karimov on 19 March.
Taghi and Sadagatoghlu are charged in accordance with Article 283 of the Criminal Code (creating national, racial, social or religious hostility). In November 2006, Taghi issued an article ( Europe and We) in the Sanat Gazeti where he blasphemed the Prophet Muhammad and the Islamic Religion.
After investigations the case was passed to the Nasimi District Court. However according to the decision of the preparatory sitting, the case was then transferred to the Sabayil District Court, as the newspaper is situated within the same district.
