Number of Teachers More in Correlation to Pupils in   Azerbaijan : Minister

Azerbaijan, Baku /corr. Trend E.Huseynly / The Education Minister of Azerbaijan, Misir Mardanov, said on 9 July that the number of teachers is high in correlation to the number of pupils in Azerbaijan.

According to him, on average there is one teacher to nine pupils in Azerbaijani secondary schools and it is not a positive indicator. The Minister stressed that there are much more teachers in central schools of Baku.

"We carry out work to raise the conformity between teachers and pupils and relevant measures are being taken in various regions of the country," Mardanov said.

Currently 4,542 secondary schools operate in Azerbaijan. 174,000 educational employees are involved in teaching 1.6 mln pupils. Nearly 29,233 pupils are educated in lyceums and gymnasiums functioning in the country. In addition, approximately 4,550 children are at private secondary schools.
