Azerbaijan, Baku / Тrend corr A. Gafarov / A working group of the Archaeology and Ethnography Institution at the National Academy of Sciences of Azerbaijan (NASA) has proceeded to the second stage of research of the mass burial site recently discovered in the Guba region.

The second stage of research will last one month, involving deeper digs. An expert consultation on human remains is planned. The Director of the institution, Maisa Rahimova, reported that AZN 93,000 allocated from the public budget for research is not enough and the institution has applied to the Cabinet of Ministers for an additional AZN 26,000.

The deputy head of the Guba Region Executive Power, Yusif Abidov, reported that after the research is completed, construction of a museum in the area will be considered. Should a decision to create a museum dedicated to the mass grave result, it will be necessary to several homes.

The mass grave was discovered in the beginning of April this year during construction of a stadium in the Guba region. Initial expertise proved that the anarchic burial included people of Azerbaijani and Jewish origin slaughtered by Armenians during the genocide of 1918.

Guba is 170km north of Baku.
