Baku, Azerbaijan, Jan. 30
Several important projects related to railway transportation will be implemented in Azerbaijan in 2018, said the country’s President Ilham Aliyev.
He made the remarks at a conference on the fourth year of implementation of the state program for socio-economic development of regions of Azerbaijan in 2014-2018, held at the Heydar Aliyev Center in Baku.
“As I noted, the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway is put into operation. The interest is very big; this issue is seriously discussed both within the framework of the World Economic Forum in Davos, and in other forums,” said President Aliyev.
The project has a special place among infrastructure transport projects on the world agenda, he noted adding that analysts and experts especially note the role of Azerbaijan in the implementation of this project.
“Currently, we must try to ensure that the necessary measures are taken for the successful operation of Baku-Tbilisi-Kars and, of course, they will be taken. Relevant instructions were given for the production of new wagons, tanks, ships, and the purchase of containers. Cargo from Asia to the West increases day by day. Thus, we managed to implement the East-West transport corridor,” noted the president.
