BAKU, Azerbaijan, June 17. Azerbaijan imported more than 735,900 tons of food products from January through May 2022, which is 1.73 percent less than the same period last year, Trend reports with reference to the Bulletin of Azerbaijan’s State Customs Committee.

According to committee, Azerbaijani food imports, in value terms, increased by 15.9 percent (or $120.05 million) over the year, up to $875.06 million.

Azerbaijan imported over 15,340 tons of meat worth $26.7 million in first five months 2022, 4,480 tons of milk ($6.67 million), 8,927 tons of dairy products ($49.6 million), 209,730 tons of vegetables and fruits ($119.3 million), 6,080 tons of tea (more than $29.9 million).

Azerbaijan also imported over 418,070 tons of wheat, barley, corn and rice worth over $158.1 million.

Imports of vegetable fats and oils amounted to about 73,260 tons worth more than $119.5 million.

Azerbaijan reduced import of tobacco and tobacco products by 27.7 percent (to about $29.85 million) during this period compared from January through May 2021.

Imports of pharmaceutical industry products increased in quantitative terms by 27.9 percent, or by more than 2,700 tons - up to 12,600 tons compared to the same period in 2021, and in value terms - by 31.7 percent (or $63.3 million), to over $263.04 million.
