Azerbaijanis May Utilize Compulsory Medical Insurance in February

Azerbaijan, Baku, 9 January / Trend corr. U.Ismaylova / The compulsory medical insurance will be functioning in Azerbaijan from February 2008, Khadi Rajabli, the head of the permanent parliamentary commission on social issues, stated.

"The Cabinet of Ministers and Health Ministry will develop a list of its first medical services which is considered as a compulsory medical insurance," Rajabli said.

Around 190 services will be included into the list of compulsory medical assurance

The Agency dealing with the compulsory medical insurance was established at the Cabinet in December. Establishment of the medical social insurance system has been conducted within the framework of reforming the health system and improving the quality of the medical services. About AZN 1.4mln was allocated from the State Budget to introduce the system in 2008. The Azerbaijani Siazan region was chosen as a pilot region.

The Azerbaijani Social Protection Fund earlier offered to participate in the collection of funds for medical insurance, taking into consideration the experience of collection of assignments on the compulsory medical insurance. The new established Agency will engage in the allocation of funds.

The exact number of assignments from insurance revenues will be specified once the preparation work has been completed.
