Annulment of Tax and Customs Charges for Import of Rice, Flour to Azerbaijan to Bring Stability to Market – Minister

Azerbaijan, Baku, 1 May / Trend corr U. Ismayilova/ "The Azerbaijani Cabinet's decision to cancel VAT and customs charges for the import of rice, wheat flour and rye flour to Azerbaijan will bring stability to the market," Heydar Babayev, Azerbaijani Economic Development Minister, said on 1 May.

Currently VAT in Azerbaijan is 18%. Until now customs charges for the import of rice was 5% and 15% for wheat flour. These privileges will be effective for one year.

"A rise in prices for bread is the issue of the day not only for Azerbaijan but worldwide," Minister said. According to Babayev, the Government's decision proves that trade has been completely liberalized in Azerbaijan and there is no monopoly in the market. "Anyone has the opportunity to import rice or flour into the country. The main thing is to assure that it is of a high quality," he said.
