Bank Melli Iran’s Azerbaijani Branch to Start Plastic Cart Issue in January

Azerbaijan, Baku, 11 November / Trend , corr. N.Ismayilova /In January 2009, Bank Melli Iran will set up cash machines and POS-terminals in Azerbaijan and lunch the issue of plastic carts to clients," Anar Ibrahimov, the deputy head of the bank, said.

According to Ibrahimov, bank has already fulfilled all the necessary measures to start the process.

"Despite we are operating in Baku as an independent bank, we are the branch of the Iranian bank and therefore our activity is limited. This is, naturally, has a negative effect on bank's activity," Ibrahimov said.

Bank Melli Iran will not issue plastic carts to clients with MasterCard and Visa.

"Taken into account the attitude of Iranian banks with U.S. and European banking community, there are quite serious difficulties there. Therefore, our goal is to serve local carts," Ibrahimov said.

Bank Melli Iran has only one branch in Baku, while has wide branch network in other countries.

At the end of October 2008, bank assets amounted to AZN 18.51mln, authorized capital - AZN 10mln, aggregated capital - AZN11.28mln, bank loan portfolio - AZN 6.37mln and deposit portfolio - AZN 2.36mln. Banks' incomes within 10 months of 2008 amounted to AZN 1.15mln.

On 11 November, the official currency rate is 0.8085AZN/USD.
