Romanian President launches official visit to Turkmenistan on July 21

Romanian President Trian Besesku is commencing a two-day official visit to Ashgabat on July 21 to extend cooperation, official Turkmen source said. 

The two countries have signed 18 intergovernmental, interstate and interdepartmental agreements. Romanian ambassador obtained accreditation in Ashgabat a long ago.

According to the Turkmen Economy and Development Ministry, 8 projects worth $43.09 million involving Romanian business are realized in the country, mainly in oil-gas field. Some 4 enterprises involving Romanian capital have been registered in the country.  

Romania is one of the European countries interested to receive direct access to Turkmen gas. This intention is explained with Nabucco project, targeting to diversify natural fuel sources through access to energy resources of the Caspian region first of all from Azerbaijan and Central Asian countries.

Turkmen President Gurbangulu Berdmuhammedov visited Bucharest in 2008.

Next meeting of leaders of both countries is intended to become an important step in development of friendly intergovernmental relations, which lately has been enriched, Turkmen State news agency reported.

Cooperation with Romania, a full member of the European Union since 2007, is considered through deepening dialogue with the EU, which is one of the priorities of Turkmen foreign policy, Altin Asir reported
