Azerbaijan Transport Ministry announces tender for reconstruction of highway

Azeryolservis of the Azerbaijani Transport Ministry is searching for consultants who will work on a project to expand the Baku-Shamakhi-Yevlakh highway (45-122 km), the ministry said.

Reconstruction of the highway is done thanks to a World Bank loan allocated to Azerbaijan.

The consulting services will prepare several possible alternatives for the expansion of the highway, the preparation of project and tender documents and other works.

The operations should begin no later than April 2010. The proposals must be submitted no later than Feb.3, 2010 to Azeryolservis of the Azerbaijani Transport Ministry.

The WB will grant a $175-million loan for the construction and reconstruction of the Hajiqabul-Bahramtapa highway. The highway is 112 kilometers long and has 200 kilometers of local road.

About a $62-million loan has been issued for 20 years with a grace period of 10 years by the International Development Association, and a $113-million loan was issued by the IBRD for 20 years with a grace period of four years.

The total cost of the project exceeds $200 million, and the rest will be financed by the Azerbaijani government.
