Azerbaijani population increases by 50,000 people

The Azerbaijani population number grew by 50,000 people to 9.047 million as of July 1, 2010, the State Statistics Committee reported on Friday.

"About 54 percent of the population lives in urban areas and 46 percent - in the villages," the report says.

Azerbaijan's population's 49 percent are male and 51 percent female, 22 percent - children under 14 years old, 71 percent - a person aged 15 -64 and  7 percent - over 65 years. 31 percent of the population is young people aged 14-29 years.

About 76,300 children were born in Azerbaijan in the first half of 2010, or 421 children per day on average.  The figure on newborns increased from 16.3 to 17.2 per 1000 people compared to the first half of 2009.

Azerbaijan registered 32,600 marriages and 4,000 divorces in January-June. The figure on marriages increased from 7.3 to 7.4 per 1000 people compared to the first half of 2009. The indicator for the level of divorce has not changed.

The average age of male entering into the first marriage was 27 years old and women - 23 years.

The Azerbaijani Interior Ministry received 1,100 appeals for permanent residence in the country  and 400 appeals for departure in January to June.
