Industrial production in Azerbaijan's non-oil sector ups by 15 percent

In January-June of 2010, the amount of industrial production in Azerbaijan hit 14.2 billion manat, which is 3.5 percent higher than the same period of 2009, the State Statistics Committee reported.

The amount of production in the extractive industry increased by 2.1 percent to 10,969 billion manat (with weight 77.5 percent).The specific weight of the processing industry hit 17.2 percent (5.2-percent increase), gas and power engineering (2.9-percent increase) - 4.8 percent and water sector - 0.5 percent(3.1-percent increase).

The growth of the oil production by AIOC increased 2.8 percent and amounted to 21.1 million tons and gas production decreased by 4 percent and amounted to 5.3 billion cubic meters.

During this period, share of the private sector increased by 2.2 percent and hit 82.1 percent of the total industry production.

Of the total amount 93.4 percent fall to manufacturing, 6.6 percent - services of an industrial nature. Manufacturing output in the non-oil industrial sector grew by 15.3 percent to 2.4 billion manat.

The volume of the processing industry amounted to 2 440.8 million manat. During the first half there was a significant increase in production of motor vehicles, trailers and semi trailers (42.4 percent), machinery and equipment (98.1 percent), chemicals (to 55.2 percent), metallurgical industry (39.4 percent) and manufacture of electrical equipment (36.4 percent).

Production of food products rose only by 2.5 percent. The production of sugar rose by 4.2 percent, cheese and yoghurt - 2 percent to 21,700 tons, meat - 3.9 percent (123,200 tons), milk - 3 percent (317, 800 tons), butter - 0.9 percent (10,500 tons), jams and jellies - 8 percent (3.4 tons) an vegetable oils - 31.4 percent (23,100 tons).
